We have a 1.1 millionn gallon reservoir at TWN, which holds the reclaimed water
from the nursery beds as well as the processed water from the Tampa Bay Fisheries.
Since early 2005, Tampa Wholesale Nursery has been using reclaimed water to irrigate plants, which cover its 60 plus acres.
The reclaimed water comes from the nursery's beds as well as processed water from nearby Tampa Bay Fisheries. Tampa Bay Fisheries pumps its treated effluent to the nursery, where it is held in a retention pond until needed. After watering is completed, all of the excess water drains back into the pond for re-usage, with the help of the drainage system throughout the nursery as well.
This newly implemented irrigation system has allowed our nursery to restore million gallons of water from our natural resource, because we no longer rely on it for our water usage. The underground system includes a 4-inch pipe that runs 2 miles through a pasture, underneath a road, and finally into the retention pond. The system has turned out to work well for everyone involved. We end up saving our environment water, by using the processed water, which nobody else wants or can use.
